If you have been following my social media on my blogs, Facebook posts, and Instagram posts, I have been creating many recipes using low sugar low calorie protein powder to help increase nutritional value of the recipes.
As for chocolate powder, I recommend using low sugar high protein chocolate powder to increase protein content of the recipe. Alternatively, you may consider using cacao powder or carob powder as you wish.
Ingredients
Secret Recipe:
BASE
260 g medjool dates, Seeds removed
150 g activated almonds, (soaked and dehydrated) or just raw almonds
40 g raw carob (or unsweetened cocao) powder, or nibs
1-2 tbsp coconut oil
TOPPING
100 g coconut oil
60 g carob (or unsweetened cocao) powder
70 g maple syrup (or rice syrup or Raw Honey)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Method
For the base
Place all base ingredients into a food processor and process for 1-2 minutes. After this time, check to make sure it will stick together if you press it. If it doesn't, add a little more coconut oil and blitz again.
Pour this mixture out into a silicon slice form (or slice tin that you have lined and left edges of the lining overhanging so you can easily lift it out when done).
Refrigerate while you make the topping.
For the topping
Place all topping ingredients into the food processor and blitz for 30 seconds. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and repeat. Do this 3 times, until it is well combined.
Pour the mixture onto the base, ensuring the base is evenly covered.
Refrigerate for 15 minutes then remove from the fridge and using the tip of a sharp knife, mark lines in the top where you want to cut it when it is set, then put back into the fridge and leave to set completely (approx 1 hour).
Decorate your cake with fresh strawberries or blueberries and sprinkle with grounded walnuts or almonds for garnishing.
Tips
This is very delicious and quite rich and should cure any chocolate craving! Cut the pieces small because of the richness, but you probably won't be able to stop at one ;)

What is carob?
Carob (unsweetened) is a low-calorie, naturally sweet alternative to chocolate.
Adding carob to your diet can provide you with many health benefits. Since carob is naturally high in fibre, low in fat and has no caffeine, it's ideal for people with high blood pressure, high blood sugar and those who would like to reduce caffeine consumption. The low sugar and fat content also makes it a great dietary addition or chocolate substitution for people looking to lose weight.
Carob alternatives:
Cocao powder, sugar-free cocoa powder, or high protein chocolate-flavoured protein powder e.g. low sugar low calorie Metagenics protein powder (Talk to our BBDiet dietitians to find out the best alternatives tailored to your needs and preferences).
